My name is a concerned Robloxian user who has experienced firsthand the excessive censorship carried out by Roblox's artificial intelligence filter. In my experience, words as harmless as 'marry', 'name', 'marriage', 'autism', 'gold digger', 'cord', 'one', and many others have been unjustly censored. Even in the context of harmless role-playing activities such as a simulated wedding at Brookhaven chapel, words like 'marry' and 'marriage' have been censored, significantly hindering the user experience. I still encounter bullying even when the words "autism" is censored which violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) federal law. Roblox has violated federal law by not allowing me to say I have autism. I still face bullying and virtual rapes, even when I am blocked from saying I have autism. Roblox's AI filter is out of control. I still get bullied with false reports, my friends are being falsely reported and banned from Roblox. So the filter is doing nothing to protect us when it is acting far worse than some over-protective parent. Roblox is acting like a tyrant, and oppressing people doing role-playing, and having normal discussions.

This is what we the petition signers are urging Roblox to do as paying customers and are protected under the civil rights act and ADA laws:

1. I ask Roblox to end the use of Artificial Intelligence in their filtering system and go back to word list filters. AI has been abused and misused to create a living filter where this "living filter" can filter new words or new sets of words. The filter can then filter more and more innocent words or innocent sentences. AI is premature and is not mature enough to handle the filtering system and filtering of words. I understand the reason they use AI is to target those using words to get around the filtered words, but if it is not saying actual cuss words, others will not know what somebody is saying so the filter would still be effective as is in blocking cuss words and adult sexual words.
2. I ask Roblox to go back to censoring only sexual words, adult content, porn, and cuss words. They should not be censoring words like autism, marriage, marry, name, and others. I don't have to use my real name on Roblox. So censoring names and censoring the word 'name' is insane, it is crazy and does not protect anybody. Roblox needs to stop censoring names because I can give a pen name as my roblox name. By Roblox censoring the names, I can't talk to my friends normally. If a group of my friends come in, I can't call out one of my friends by name to discuss something or role-play or direct a certain role for a roleplay. This filter system hinders my ability to talk with my friends or to direct a conversation to one of my friends while I am with a group of friends. They need to stop censoring names and stop censoring the word: name.

This is not an isolated issue. Numerous other users have shared similar experiences, raising concerns over the extent of censorship on a platform primarily used for harmless, creative exploration. While it is understandable and even commendable that Roblox seeks to prevent explicit or harmful language, the broad censorship of terms that are part of everyday conversation is excessive.

We are not advocating for the removal of the censorship system entirely. Censoring cuss words and sexual words in the public chat is the best idea. We understand the necessity to protect the younger audience of Roblox from adult content, pornographic material, and cuss words. Yet, it's dismaying when simple words used in normal conversations get red-flagged while attempting an immersion in the gaming experience.

So, we are calling on Roblox to revisit and adjust their AI-driven censoring system and strike a better balance or end the use of Artificial Intelligence (end the living filter) to go back to wordlist filters, one that respects the importance of free, normal conversation while maintaining necessary protections for its young user base.
