For the past two Congresses, the House of Representatives has passed, with strong bipartisan support, reform legislation that protects federal employees who blow the whistle on waste, fraud and abuse. This year, these reforms advanced in the Senate, and last Friday the Senate unanimously approved S. 372, the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act (WPEA). This legislation, which reflects a true compromise between Senate and House versions of whistleblower reform, must become law this year.
We're closer than ever to achieving our goal. But now, we need your help. Recent news reports show that Congressman Darrell Issa (R.-Ca) is leaning toward delaying the vote until next year. That means that our efforts might have to start back at square one. But federal whistleblowers protections cannot wait.
The House can and must enact a whistleblower reform law ensuring that federal workers who expose wrongdoing -- and are then punished for speaking the truth -- have the tools they need to fight that retaliation, and win. Rep. Issa must hear from you as soon as possible.
Protecting whistleblowers is a reform that has strong support across ideological lines. Federal employees must be able to fight back when they are fired, harassed and demoted in retaliation for their efforts to protect public health and safety, and taxpayer dollars.
We can’t overstate the importance of this legislation. And we can't overstate how crucial your support is. We need your help to push the House to vote. Sign the petition below to urge Rep. Issa to support bringing the WPEA to a House vote immediately.
