Urge Province of NB to Designate 870 acres in Lorneville for Conservation
The Issue
On March 21, 2025 on the floor of the New Brunswick Legislature, Fundy-The Isles-Saint John Lorneville MLA Ian Lee read a community petition to permanently conserve ~870 acres of land in Lorneville. This petition was signed by 500 residents of the greater Lorneville area.
The land in question is an extremely biodiverse ecosystem that borders the residential community of Lorneville, provides critical ecological services for the Lorneville residents, and comprises mature forest & wetlands that drain into two salt marshes and the Bay of Fundy. The city of Saint John intends use this land to expand its heavy industrial park. We must protect it at all costs.
