Urge President Biden to Grant Pardon to Senator Katrina Robinson

The Issue

Senator Katrina Robinson has been a longtime dedicated public servant in the Memphis community. Starting Tennessee's only black-owned nursing school in 2015, she singlehandedly revolutionized healthcare education for the disadvantaged in her community.

In 2018, she decided to take her quest to empower her community higher. Katrina ran for Tennessee State Senate and defeated a 12-year incumbent in a landslide victory. As a formidable leader, she fearlessly advocated for women's rights, black economic growth, education, juvenile justice and police reform. She became a refreshing no-nonsense voice in the far-right Republican dominated legislature and simultaneously became the #1 target.

Senator Robinson's legacy in the community is inextricably tied to her promise for justice and opportunity, shaping the future of many communities of color. As a result of the malicious prosecution she suffered, the school she founded lost all support from community partners who provided tuition assistance for her students. After allowing students to graduate for free subsequent to their loss in funding, Senator Robinson could no longer shoulder the undue burden of self financing her students education and was ultimately forced to close her school in 2023. This left a gaping hole in the Memphis community as  her school was not only an educational institution, but provided community patient education for the underinsured, job fairs to fill employment gaps, food giveaways, free checkups and so much more.

In the face of surviving the much publicized attack on her character, Senator Robinson has never bowed her head. In February 2022, her prosecution ultimately provided the crooked majority in Tennessee the power it needed to forcefully and unconstitutionally expel Senator Robinson from the Tennessee Senate despite the outcry of her constituents who helplessly stood beside her in support and despite the fact that she had not yet been convicted of a crime.  Undeterred by the efforts to ruin her life and legacy, she has continued to be a visible voice of advocacy on issues surrounding voter suppression, social justice, and women's rights.

In this moment, we count on President Biden to intervene and pardon Senator Katrina Robinson— restoring a valued community leader from undeserved punishment. Like many other black female public officials, Senator Robinson was subjected to malicious abuse of the criminal justice system through wrongful prosecution. This ultimately led to the loss of that strong no-nonsense voice on the frontline of the issues that affect US the most, the loss of a critical educational opportunity through the demise of a beloved nursing institution, and a complete dismantling of Senator Robinson's life. The President's action is not merely a pardon for Senator Robinson, but a commitment to protect those who put their lives on the line for their communities through public service.
