Day after day, I witness the heartache and frustration suffered by personal friends and neighbours whose cars have been broken into, stolen, or shockingly vandalised. These crimes aren't just anomalies; they are alarming trends and in many cases, the incidents are brazenly recorded by the culprits themselves and shared on social media, revealing an ongoing criminal spree orchestrated by youth gangs in the area.

The sheer magnitude of the problem can be seen on various local social media pages, where disheartened residents constantly share stories of theft and destruction. The cars that are stolen often remain unfound, stripping families of their primary means of transport and leaving them burdened with financial and emotional distress. Despite these public acknowledgements, the current efforts by the Palmerston City Council seem severely lacking. Immediate and decisive action is needed to restore community safety and trust.

We urge the Palmerston City Council to ramp up their efforts and work closely with law enforcement agencies to tackle this crime wave. Key strategies should include increased police patrols, better surveillance in hotspots, and community engagement initiatives that focus on youth mentorship and rehabilitation to dissuade them from a life of crime.
