Urge Our Watch to educate the public on coercive control

The issue

In 2007, during the political campaigns in Australia, something profound occurred that reshaped our understanding of how targeted messaging and awareness campaigns can influence public perception and action. It was a pivotal moment, demonstrating the power of communication and education. But unfortunately, the conversation around important social issues, such as coercive control, did not receive the same focus and urgency.

Coercive control, a pattern of abuse that involves tactics like isolation, manipulation, and fear, is often overlooked. Many Australians remain unaware of the signs of coercive control, leaving countless individuals vulnerable to this insidious form of abuse. The impact is devastating, often leading to long-term psychological trauma.

Statistics show that one in four women in Australia have experienced emotional abuse from a partner. Despite this alarming statistic, coercive control is not yet a widely understood concept. Education is critical to prevention and intervention.

When those campaigns were very violent and very dangerous when all the bad people were involved in criminal activities and violence against the public police forces and their families were in danger and they had no way of getting away from this country as the government is a threat to the world and the people are not in the same place as they used to live and work in the same workplace as they used to working as ongoing jobs.

Our Watch, a well-respected organization committed to stopping violence against women, is uniquely positioned to lead a national campaign to inform and educate the public about coercive control. By providing resources, workshops, and media coverage, Our Watch can make a significant difference in how Australians understand and respond to coercive control.

We need a multifaceted national campaign to include public service announcements, educational materials in schools, and training sessions for law enforcement and social workers. Such comprehensive outreach can create a cultural shift in recognising and tackling coercive control, encouraging more victims to seek help and more communities to intervene.

Join me in urging Our Watch to use their influence and expertise to educate Australians on coercive control. Let’s ensure that no one suffers in silence any longer. Please sign this petition to make a change.
