Urge Ontario to withdraw the pending ear cropping and tail docking ban

Urge Ontario to withdraw the pending ear cropping and tail docking ban
The Issue
As a devoted Doberman breeder in Ontario, I and many other breeders will be deeply affected by the government's recent decision to introduce a bill banning the practices of ear cropping and tail docking in dogs.
Dobermans are a working and protection breed. Ear cropping and tail docking were never about looks for me—they are about preventing injuries, chronic ear problems, and repeated trauma, especially in active dogs. These are decisions I make with my veterinarian, carefully and responsibly, based on each individual dog.
This bill also threatens breed preservation. Dobermans and other breeds that are held to internationally recognized breed standards, and Ontario breeders will be placed at a disadvantage compared to other jurisdictions.
Moreover, this decision removes the expert judgment of veterinarians, who are trained to assess the individual needs of each dog. Instead of enhancing animal welfare, it risks driving these procedures underground where they might be performed without professional care or due consideration.
It's essential to recognize that these practices are sometimes medically necessary and should not be broadly dismissed by legislation that overlooks both science and expert opinion.
By reversing the potential ban on ear cropping and tail docking we can preserve responsible breeding practices and safeguard the welfare of dogs whose roles demand such interventions. We urge the government to engage in productive dialogue with veterinarians, breeders of dogs affected by this ban, and dog lovers, to find a balanced approach that respects both animal welfare and practical needs.
Please sign this petition to encourage the Ontario government to withdraw the bill banning ear cropping and tail docking, and to reflect upon a more informed and considerate approach to canine health and safety regulations. Your support is crucial in protecting the future of breeds like the Doberman, Cane Corso, Boxers, Great Danes, Giant Schnauzers, bullies breeds, never mind the hunting breeds and sheep dogs tail docking and ensuring that their health and safety remain a priority for breeders and owners alike.
