Urge NSW to increase funding for community preschools
The issue
As a concerned parent, I am deeply troubled by the proposed funding cuts to community preschools in New South Wales. These cuts threaten not only the safety of our children but also the livelihoods of dedicated educators. Our community preschools are renowned for maintaining the highest quality ratings and for being safe havens where children thrive. These institutions, supported by skilled staff who understand the unique needs of each child, are integral to our children’s early development and education.
The NSW Government's proposal to reduce funding could lead to drastic measures, such as laying off valuable staff or overwhelming educators with unsustainable workloads. This scenario not only compromises the safety and wellbeing of our children but also risks pushing our talented educators towards burnout.
Preschools are the foundation of our children's education. Research shows that quality early childhood education significantly benefits cognitive and social development, setting children up for lifelong success. Preschool educators are essential in creating a nurturing learning environment. Removing these critical resources from our children would be detrimental to their growth and security.
By increasing funding or at least maintaining current levels, the NSW Government can ensure that preschools continue to operate safely and effectively. We need a government that prioritises education and childcare, recognising the enormous impact these services have on our community’s future. If current proposals proceed, families will face the heart-wrenching decision of potentially risking their child’s safety and education or being forced to seek alternative, potentially less suitable, education options.
We call on the NSW Government to reassess their priorities, to listen to parents and educators, and to recognise that the safety and quality of our community preschools are non-negotiable. Investing in early childhood education is investing in the future of New South Wales.
