The Issue

I am a resident of Norwalk, CT, deeply moved by the ongoing conflict in Gaza. As someone who values life above all else, it is heartbreaking to witness the loss of innocent lives, particularly children. The United Nations reports that over 30,000 Gazans and Israelis have died since October 7th.  Over 12,000 Palestinian children have been killed in this conflict and more will die if we don't act. This is not just a statistic; these are lives cut short before they had the chance to flourish.

This region has always been a beacon of hope and peace.  Just think back:  Firstly, Norwalk was a "station" on the Underground Railroad for escaping slaves.  Secondly, residents of our region even fought nuclear proliferation through their defiance aboard the "Golden Rule" ship in the South Pacific in the 1950's.  Now we have an opportunity to extend our influence again beyond our borders by presenting a Ceasefire Resolution for Gaza to our Common Council and mayor. This resolution will not only represent our collective desire for peace but also send out a strong message that we stand against any form of violence.

The backing of this resolution by residents like us can make all the difference. It will show that we are united in our belief that every life matters and no good can come from violence or war. Let us use this moment as an opportunity to demonstrate compassion towards those who are suffering far away from us.

I urge you all – my fellow residents – let's take action now! Sign this petition urging Norwalk's Common Council and mayor to adopt a Ceasefire Resolution for Gaza. Let's stand together as advocates for peace!
