Urge NHS Trusts to reconsider reducing pay for bank workers Band 5 and above

Urge NHS Trusts to reconsider reducing pay for bank workers Band 5 and above
The Issue
From 4 August 2025, all NHS Trusts in Cheshire and Merseyside will adopt standardised bank pay rates for bank Band 5 and above roles. Staff will be paid either at the bottom or the midpoint of their pay band, depending on their current position. Bands 2 to 4 will remain unchanged for now. No additional incentive schemes will be offered.
NHS Trusts say these changes, aims to ensure fair pay, improve efficiency, and help meet financial targets across the systemThe recent decision by NHS Trusts across Cheshire and Merseyside to reduce the pay for bank workers at Band 5 and above is not only disheartening but also seems unfair.
Whilst bands 2-4 remain unaffected by this pay cut, those of us in higher bands facing these deductions will now earn a marginally higher wage than a Band 3 at the top of their banding, yet we continue to shoulder the same responsibilities.
Why should we, as dedicated healthcare professionals, continue delivering the same level of care and expertise if our roles are not being valued equally in terms of compensation? The disparity in treatment among the various bands raises important questions about the equity and fairness of this decision. Furthermore, the morale of health workers is significantly impacted when they perceive that their immense contribution to the healthcare sector, especially during challenging times, is not being acknowledged appropriately.
This decision warrants reevaluation. NHS Trusts need to reflect on how these changes potentially alter the scope and the quality of care we provide. It's crucial for them to ask themselves how they expect the role of nurses and other healthcare professionals to change in light of a reduced pay scale without compromising care standards.
It's time for NHS Trusts to reconsider their decision, taking into account the long-term implications of demoralizing a vital segment of the workforce. We urge NHS Trusts to immediately reverse the pay reduction for Band 5 and above to ensure that healthcare professionals are compensated equitably. Sign this petition to stand with those impacted, to promote fairness, and to ensure that patient care remains uninfluenced by unjust financial decisions.
