The Issue

Living in the Meridian 120 community in Verdi, Nevada, I can personally attest to the disruptive and unhealthy noise levels we are currently enduring due to the I-80 freeway. It is more than an inconvenience; it significantly impacts our quality of life. Unofficial noise monitoring has already indicated that the noise levels exceed 66 decibels, surpassing what is considered acceptable and healthy for residential areas.

The urgency of this matter is compounded by ongoing freeway expansion projects designed to increase capacity. This expansion not only threatens to exacerbate the existing noise pollution but also potentially lowers the safety standards for our community. Recently, home security footage captured a vehicle veering off the freeway and into a nearby ravine, dangerously close to inhabited homes. This incident is a stark reminder of the hazards we face and the pressing need for action.

We, as a community, are calling on the Nevada Department of Transportation to conduct a comprehensive noise impact assessment. This assessment is crucial for evaluating the current noise pollution levels and understanding the health implications on our residents. Furthermore, the assessment would provide necessary data to enforce effective noise mitigation measures in addition to re-enforcing physical safety measures between the interstate freeway and our living spaces.

The well-being and safety of our community cannot be compromised. It is imperative that the responsible authorities acknowledge the severity of the situation and take immediate steps to address our concerns. We urge you to support this cause by signing the petition, sending a powerful message that the tranquility and safety of our neighborhood matter. Your signature can make a difference in ensuring a livable environment for us all. Please sign this petition to bring attention to our plight and prompt necessary action from the Nevada Department of Transportation.
