Urge NASA and International Partners to Preserve the ISS in a Graveyard Orbit

The Issue

The International Space Station (ISS) is more than just a technological marvel; it's a symbol of international cooperation and human achievement. For me, it represents an era when nations chose to work together to create an extraordinary feat of technology and educational research. Its preservation would serve as a lasting testament to this spirit of unity.

The ISS has been continuously occupied since November 2000, hosting astronauts from 19 countries who have conducted over 3,000 research investigations (source: NASA). It is not just an orbiting laboratory but also an international diplomatic venue. However, plans are underway for its decommissioning in the coming years.

We propose that instead of letting this symbol fall back into Earth's atmosphere where it will burn up, we should park the ISS into a graveyard orbit - an orbit that lies far away from commonly used orbits around Earth where defunct satellites are moved at the end of their operational life.

This petition calls on NASA and all other nation collaborators involved with the ISS project to consider this proposal seriously. Let us preserve this beacon of human ingenuity and international collaboration for future generations to admire. Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving our shared space heritage.
