The Issue

My name is Louise and I am a parent of two wonderful children, a son who is 9 years old and a daughter who is 6 years old, both of whom attend Moulsecoomb Primary School in Brighton. Both of my children have autism, and my son also has ADHD. Despite my son now entering Year 5, the school has yet to adequately meet his needs or those of my daughter, who appears to be on the same challenging path.

Our children deserve a supportive and understanding environment that respects their unique needs and empowers them to thrive. Many children with neurodiversity, medical problems, or disabilities struggle in classrooms that are not equipped to support them. This impacts not only their learning but their emotional and social development, leaving them at a disadvantage.

Schools like Moulsecoomb Primary play a crucial role in shaping the future of our children. It is essential that they implement comprehensive training for teachers and staff on autism and ADHD, update their facilities to accommodate diverse needs, and develop individualized education plans for students who require them. Every child should feel valued and included, and it is the responsibility of the school to ensure this is possible.

Further statistics have shown that with proper support, children with neurodiverse conditions can excel academically and socially. According to the National Autistic Society, 70% of autistic children are in mainstream schools, yet many of these schools lack the resources or knowledge to fully support them.

Let's stand together to call for positive change at Moulsecoomb Primary School. We must push for a reform in the way the school handles neurodiverse and disabled students’ education. Let’s encourage the school administration to be proactive and inclusive of all students, ensuring they receive the quality education they deserve.

By signing this petition, you can help make a difference in my children's lives and the lives of many others who face similar challenges. Please sign and share this petition. Together, we can advocate for the rights and proper education of all children.
