Urge Meta to Restore Unlimited Free Links in Posts
The Issue
For small businesses, creators, and nonprofits, Facebook has long been a lifeline to reach their target audiences without the backing of million-dollar advertising budgets. As a small business owner myself, I've relied heavily on Facebook’s organic link posts to direct potential customers to my website, upcoming events, and product launches. But recent changes are threatening to cut off this essential resource.
Meta has recently imposed a new restriction, limiting business Pages to just two organic link posts per month. Any additional posts now require a $49.99/month fee, which allows for only eight posts and eight reels. For years, business pages have relied on unlimited organic link posts to connect directly with customers, promote services, and disseminate vital information. This sudden and steep payment demand places an undue burden, especially on small businesses, nonprofits, and grassroots organizations who simply can’t afford these arbitrary fees.
Statistics show that in 2022, small businesses made up 99.9% of all businesses in the U.S., employing nearly 47.3% of the private workforce. Many of these businesses depend on platforms like Facebook to maintain a competitive edge, build community engagement, and showcase their products. Requiring up to $49.99 a month for something previously free disregards the financial realities of small business people and community organizers.
For nonprofits, the ability to post unlimited links is crucial to spread awareness and drive support for their causes. Various organizations use Facebook not just for public engagement but also to gather volunteers and solicit donations critical to their operations. The new limit impedes their ability to effectively reach out and affect change.
This change by Meta punishes those who have already contributed to Facebook's community and growth. By restoring free, unlimited links in organic posts, Meta would be investing in the longevity and diversity of its own ecosystem, where small enterprises and individuals thrive alongside big companies.
Let's demand that Meta recognizes the invaluable role small businesses and organizations play in driving social interaction on their platform. It's time to take a stand and tell Meta to reverse this costly and damaging decision.
Join me in signing this petition to appeal to Meta and urge them to restore unlimited organic link posts for all Pages without imposing prohibitive charges.
