Urge Memphis City Council to Reject Lifetime Healthcare for Themselves

The Issue

I am a resident of Memphis, TN, and retired after giving 40 years of my life working for the City of Memphis expecting to receive the same benefits as thousands have before me.

Unfortunately, I, along with many others, have personally experienced the devastating impact of losing healthcare insurance when it was taken away by our city council. It is disheartening to learn that the same council now seeks to gift themselves with lifetime healthcare.

Our city's budget is already stretched thin, and such a move would only exacerbate the financial strain. According to data from the U.S Census Bureau, nearly 24% of Memphians live in poverty - one of the highest rates in America. These resources could be better used to support those struggling within our community rather than benefiting those who are already well-off.

Moreover, this proposal undermines public trust in our elected officials. Public office should not be seen as an opportunity for personal gain but as a platform for serving citizens' needs.

We must ensure that our leaders prioritize public interest over their own. Therefore, we call upon every citizen who believes in fairness and accountability to join us in urging the Memphis City Council not only vote NO on this proposal but also reconsider their approach towards public service.
