Losing loved ones to substance abuse is a painful experience that I wouldn't wish upon anyone. Some of the people that I know have passed away due to their addiction to tobacco, nicotine, and alcohol products. It is for this reason that we are urging lawmakers to consider the prohibition of these substances in order to prevent similar tragedies from happening. Currently, the World Health Organisation states that tobacco kills up to half of its users, equivalent to more than 8 million people each year. Furthermore, excessive alcohol consumption contributes to over 200 diseases and injury-related health conditions, including the well-known liver cirrhosis and certain types of cancer according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Unfortunately, most consumers become addicted, often leading to life-threatening health complications. By outlawing these products, we could potentially save millions of lives each year from these preventable deaths. Let us take action against these silent killers which are legitimized by industries profiting from death and disease. It's time we put the health and well being of our people before profits.
