Urge Lakewood to protect its residents from ICE activities

Urge Lakewood to protect its residents from ICE activities
The Issue
The city of Lakewood, CA is home to a vibrant and diverse community. However, residents and workers in our city are living in fear due to ongoing ICE activities. It is time for our city to take a stand, acknowledge these issues, and provide support and protection to those who have been affected by this climate of fear.
Statistics show that approximately 3 million residents in Los Angeles County are non-citizens, with many living and working in Lakewood (American Community Survey, 2019). Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations create an environment of fear and insecurity among immigrants, tearing families apart and disrupting communities.
We call upon the city officials of Lakewood, CA, to acknowledge those who have been unjustly taken by ICE and to strengthen protections for the residents and community members of our city. Our city needs to be a sanctuary where everyone, regardless of their immigration status, feels safe and supported.
One crucial step in achieving this is for the city to make public announcements when ICE is active within our community. This will allow residents to prepare and stay informed, ensuring their safety and the safety of their families.
Additionally, we urge the city of Lakewood to allocate funds to support immigration defense resources for those affected by ICE actions. Access to legal aid can mean the difference between staying with loved ones and being separated indefinitely. By funding immigration defense resources, the city will not only provide crucial assistance to individuals impacted by ICE activities but also promote justice and equity for all residents.
This petition calls for unity and proactive measures in safeguarding the rights and liberties of every community member. Together, we can create an inclusive and supportive environment in Lakewood, CA.
Please sign this petition to urge our city leaders to take action now and show that Lakewood stands with and for all its residents.
