As a concerned member of the Kalamazoo community, We are deeply troubled by the food insecurity that plagues our local college students. It is disheartening to learn that 22 percent of Western Michigan University (WMU) students and 26 percent of Kalamazoo Valley Community College (KVCC) students are food insecure. This means they lack consistent access to enough nutritious food necessary for an active, healthy life.

The Broncos Kitchen Foundation has been doing commendable work in providing meals for these struggling students at their meal site. However, they need more support to continue this vital service and extend their reach.

We urge the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners to donate $250,000 towards this noble cause. This funding will not only help feed our local college students but also contribute significantly towards their overall well-being and academic success.

Let's stand together as a community and ensure no student goes hungry while pursuing an education in our county's institutions - Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, and KVCC. Please sign this petition urging the County Board of Commissioners to make this crucial donation.
