The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in numerous prisoners and captives on both sides. This situation not only exacerbates the conflict but also inflicts untold suffering on the individuals involved and their families. There are currently dozens of Israeli citizens, including babies, children, women and elderly, held by Hamas, while hundreds of Palestinians are detained in Israeli prisons. Any other way forward will result in more death and suffering on both sides. We call upon Israel and Hamas to negotiate for a prisoner exchange agreement immediately. This will not only alleviate the suffering of these individuals but may also serve as a stepping stone towards broader talks in the region.
