The Issue

Dear President David Haubert and Members of the Board of Supervisors,

We urge the Alameda County Board of Supervisors to formally adopt the Alameda County Reparations Commission Final Action Plan at the June 30th Board meeting — and commit to its full implementation.

The Alameda County Reparations Commission has tirelessly dedicated itself to documenting the complex and painful history endured by Black residents in our community. Over the last nine months, Commissioners sat across from hundreds of residents and collected powerful stories that illustrate the truth about life in Alameda County — stories of displacement, redlining, over-policing, and the systemic stripping of generational wealth. These narratives were meticulously documented, laying bare a history of injustice lived by our neighbors, families, and friends.

For too long, these injustices were captured only in words and remained confined to paper. But documentation, while crucial, is only the first step. Our community deserves more than words. It deserves action, accountability, and real, tangible repair.

The report is done. The plan exists. The Board must act. Specifically, we urge the Board to:

  1. Formally accept the Final Action Plan Report at the June 30th Board meeting
  2. Establish long-term governance and implement permanent structures to avoid delays and keep momentum
  3. Complete a countywide Equity assessment and alignment
  4. Operationalize reparations within Alameda County

We know that repair is not a rhetorical aspiration — it is a public responsibility. We also know the lasting impacts of systemic inequity and how it shapes lives. By signing this petition, I am declaring that accountability in Alameda County can no longer wait — and that it is time for the Board to meet this moment with action.

The community showed up. The Commission delivered. Now it is time for swift implementation of the ACRC Final Action Plan — ensuring this process was more than just another report, but a plan put into action.

Sincerely,

An Alameda County Resident
