The Issue

For nearly 30 years, I have called the Henrico/Goochland border my home, a place filled with cherished memories and a strong sense of community. Unfortunately, the decisions made in recent years by our county leaders have not been aligned with the people's needs nor the area's growth potential. It's time for the leaders of Henrico County to take decisive action to protect both its citizens and investments in the Short Pump area!

A straightforward solution is at our fingertips – a land swap between the developers of the Avenlea project and Henrico County. This isn't just an opportunity; it's a necessity. Such a swap would significantly reduce costs for future roadway developments, streamline access for emergency services, and provide the much-needed buffer from Goochland County's new overlay district.

The environmental advantages are equally compelling. This action would protect Tuckahoe Creek from potential ecological disturbances which can arise from increased industrial activities. Given that the County's recent redraw of the border with Goochland facilitated rezoning uses such as the 623 landfill and has paved the way for industrial encroachments, this is a step in the right direction.

A land swap would also reduce the community's financial burden associated with constructing necessary athletic facilities by leveraging the naturally efficient layout provided by these lands.

Finally, a buffer zone would protect our community's tranquility from the effects of industrial zones and secure a more sustainable development pattern, essential for the wellbeing of current and future residents of Henrico County.

As a long-time resident, I have witnessed our community grow without adequate municipal forethought, which has led to impractical access routes and put neighborhoods like Westin Estates at a disadvantage.

I urge you to sign this petition today, to tell Henrico County's leaders that now is the time for sustainable, intelligent planning. Let’s demand a future that honors our community, protects the environment, and ensures financial prudence. Sign now to support a brighter, more resilient future for Short Pump!
