Urge Harvard University to Address Its Campus Ownership on Native American Land

The Issue

I am a person who finds it difficult to tolerate paradoxes, and one such paradox exists right here in Boston, MA. It involves the prestigious Harvard University and its campus which stands on land that was once home to Native Americans. This situation mirrors the alleged Israeli Palestinian displacement, raising questions about how these two situations differ.

Harvard University dates back from before the founding of the United States. However, this history is intertwined with the painful past of Native Americans who were displaced from their ancestral lands. The university's main campus in Cambridge was built on land originally inhabited by the Massachusett tribe.

It's crucial for Harvard University, as an influential global institution, to address this issue openly and honestly. We are not asking them to rewrite history or relocate their campus but rather acknowledge this past and clarify how it differs from other instances of displacement around the world like that alleged in Israel-Palestine.

By doing so, they can minimize campus antisemitism by exposing Free Palestine gatherings as the plain old antisemitism.

We urge you all - students, faculty members, alumni of Harvard University as well as residents of Boston - join us in calling upon Harvard University administration to make a public statement addressing its ownership of its campus on stolen native American land vis-a-vis alleged Israeli Palestinian displacement.
