The Issue

For the past two years, I have walked up to four miles daily around Harrison Steel Casting Company in Attica, IN, observing a distressing rise in the feral cat population. I started with noticing 14 distinct cat colonies, each housing between 6 to 19 cats, but this number has alarmingly increased to 36 colonies. These vulnerable animals are visibly suffering, with broken limbs, missing eyes, and oil-covered bodies. They scavenge for food amid chemicals and puddles of oil, their cries of distress echoing through the factory grounds. Despite occasionally receiving donations, the burden of feeding and caring for them is overwhelming to manage alone.

Harrison Steel's neglect is not only a moral issue but a legal and safety concern. Both state and city ordinances against the unrestricted roaming of large numbers of animals should compel action. Furthermore, the presence of these feral cats poses significant safety hazards within factory work areas, affecting community well-being and the local environment. The lack of shelter, food, and water exacerbates these dangers, threatening both the cats and those who work at or live around the facility.

We call on Harrison Steel to take immediate responsibility by providing adequate food, water, and shelter for the feral cats inhabiting their property. This essential support will mitigate safety risks, align with legal requirements, and fulfill a humane duty to these creatures.

Please join us in urging Harrison Steel Casting Company to act responsibly and compassionately to improve the lives of these cats, enhance community safety, and foster a healthier environment. Sign this petition to advocate for humane solutions and drive positive change.
