Urge Greenhead College to Adopt Ecosia as Default Search Engine
Urge Greenhead College to Adopt Ecosia as Default Search Engine
The Issue
Fresh from a meaningful carbon literacy training course, we, a group of committed students from Greenhead college, Huddersfield, implore our academic institution to transition their default search engine on the college computer system to Ecosia. This environmentally-conscious search engine ploughs its profits back into environmental initiatives, planting one tree every 45 searches. Ecosia's commitment is not merely symbolic — according to its reports, the platform has planted hundreds of millions of trees across 9,000 planting sites worldwide, Greenhead College students can contribute to that by this simple switch.
We are mindful of the fact that trees play a crucial role in capturing CO2, a greenhouse gas attributing to climate change. In other words, more trees mean less CO2. If our college works collaboratively with Ecosia as well as our students, this could result in a meaningful reduction of CO2 emissions. As students, we see this as an effective way to further educate ourselves and others about the importance of sustainability and make a personal contribution to offset global carbon emissions.
We, the students, bear first-hand witness to the increasing urgency of addressing climate change, and this small step could start a ripple effect. We urge Greenhead College to act — make the switch to Ecosia and contribute to a greener future. Please sign this petition and join the cause.
