Life has been exceptionally hard for the security staff of Woodbine, and the dedicated unionized team at Pickering Casino Resort and Ajax Downs. As of today, it has been seven grueling weeks since the lockout and strikes began, and we find ourselves in dire straits. Community members, including myself, are feeling the daily strain of falling behind on bills. Our grocery budgets are becoming increasingly tight, and the stress is mounting by the day.

The staff at these establishments are not just employees; they are vital members of our community who deserve fair working conditions and parity with their peers in the industry. Unifor 1090 has made reasonable demands on our behalf, demands that will ensure job security and financial stability for us and our families.

We urge Great Canadian Entertainment to return to the negotiating table immediately. Meeting the parity demands will allow us to resume work, restore income stability, and contribute once more to our local economy. The powerful synergy between management and staff can return, but it requires dialogue, understanding, and commitment from both sides.
