Urge Gov. Hochul and Legislature to Pass Bill S6338/A6097

The Issue

As residents of the greater Orangetown area, we deeply understand the need for vibrant community spaces and the preservation of our beautiful town. We ardently urge the governor and legislature of New York State to prioritize the speedy passage of Senate Bill S6338, and its companion Assembly Bill A6097.

This crucial bi-partisan legislation will establish a community preservation fund through a real estate transfer tax on any home purchase within the Town of Orangetown. The fund will empower our town to collect a tax of  ¾ of a percent on any home purchase. Such a measure not only promotes responsible town growth but also generates significant funds for preservation of open spaces and historical sites, and the development and improvement of parks.

We believe that passing this bill is an important step towards ensuring community identity and cohesiveness through a shared sense of history and place. The urgency for this framework is more pressing now than ever. As we witness increased residential turnover it is pivotal that we safeguard the essence of Orangetown for its current and future residents. To do so, we need a dedicated fund for community preservation.

We, the residents of the greater Orangetown area, fervently beseech our elected officials to stand with us in this cause. Your support is not simply an endorsement of a bill; it is an investment in our shared community, an affirmation of our joint heritage, and a vote for our collective future.

Join us in urging the New York State Governor and legislature to promptly pass Senate Bill S6338 and its companion Assembly Bill A6097. Stand with us, as we stand for the Town of Orangetown. Please sign this petition today.
