Urge First Key Homes to Amend Payment Policy Allowing Partial Payments

The Issue

As a tenant of First Key Homes, I profoundly feel the financial strain their "full payment only" policy has imposed. This policy that insensitively denies the option of partial payments does more than cause monetary distress; it disrupts the balance many tenants are fighting to maintain in their lives. It's making it increasingly challenging to meet our other financial obligations, diminishing the quality of life we should be able to enjoy.

First Key Homes might not realize how substantially this policy impacts thousands of tenants who, like me, are experiencing great financial hardship. Our case isn't isolated. Around the country, millions of individuals are struggling to keep up with rising costs of living while their income remains stagnant. Between 2001 and 2015, rental prices increased by 36% while the income of renters grew by only 15% according to a Harvard study (Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies, 2017).

Despite these unpleasant circumstances, our request is simple and straightforward. We urge First Key Homes to revisit their payment policy, consider the adverse effects it presents, and allow the option for tenants to make partial payments towards rent and utility bills. This change would help lift an enormous financial burden off tenants and reflect a more humane, understanding approach to housing in these challenging times.
