Urge Fairfield to improve beach parking policies

Urge Fairfield to improve beach parking policies
The Issue
Fairfield's beaches, particularly Jennings Beach, have become overwhelmingly popular due to the town's non-resident beach pass policy. Currently priced at $50 on weekends and holidays, they are considerably less expensive than neighboring towns, such as Westport, which charges $70 and implements a strict cutoff process for their sales. The allure of Fairfield's affordability is easily discoverable through search engines and AI, making it a go-to destination for non-residents seeking a cost-effective beach outing.
The resultant overcrowding poses significant traffic and safety issues for both residents and visitors. We've seen increased congestion, heightened risk of accidents, and overwhelmed infrastructure and local law enforcement struggling to manage this influx effectively, creating precarious conditions for everyone in the vicinity. The most horrible example being the fatal hit and run accident which occurred in June 2025 at the intersection of Post Road and South Benson, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old man. leaving behind a wife and young son.
To solve this issue, I urge the Fairfield local government to reassess and revise their beach parking policy. This could include increasing the price of non-resident passes or implementing a more structured quota system akin to Westport's. Moreover, improved traffic control measures, with better police presence and management, will help ensure the safety of beachgoers and residents alike.
The current situation is unsustainable and puts the Fairfield Beach neighborhood at risk. Action is needed now to prevent further tragedies and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Please sign this petition to urge the Fairfield local government to take immediate and decisive action to regulate beach access and improve neighborhood safety.
