Urge Facebook to Restrict One Account per Legal Entity

Urge Facebook to Restrict One Account per Legal Entity
The Issue
Stop Fake Accounts on Facebook: Protect Users, Advertisers, and Social Stability
As a regular Facebook user and someone who has run marketing campaigns on the platform, I have become increasingly aware of the alarming prevalence of fake accounts. This issue not only distorts the user experience and erodes trust but also contributes to social unrest. It affects advertisers as well, as their resources are wasted due to fraudulent activities by bad actors.
I have personally experienced how multiple fake accounts can manipulate the system. While running ad campaigns, I noticed suspicious activity—an influx of clicks that seemed unnatural. After digging deeper, it became clear that fake accounts were deliberately engaging with the ads, draining the budget without any genuine interest in the product or service. This fraudulent activity doesn’t just hurt businesses; it benefits no one except those looking to cause social unrest, attack competitors, and, of course, Facebook—because they get paid no matter what.
The abuse doesn’t stop there. A single individual with multiple accounts can artificially create controversy around socially divisive topics that would have never existed otherwise. By spreading misinformation, amplifying extreme viewpoints, and inciting online arguments, these bad actors manipulate public perception and stir up unnecessary chaos. This is a deliberate strategy used by both local and international entities to skew public opinion and destabilize communities.
With Facebook boasting 2.7 billion monthly active users as of Q3 2020 (Source: Statista 2020), this is no small problem. The widespread misuse of multiple accounts is a serious threat to both the integrity of online discussions and the financial well-being of advertisers.
Restricting account creation to one per proven human or legal entity—such as a corporation—would significantly curb this issue. It would add authenticity to online interactions, enhance the shared experience of the platform’s user community, restore trust, and add peace of mind when allowing our children to use the platform. Advertisers, too, would benefit by ensuring their investments are not being wasted on fraudulent engagements.
We urge Facebook to take robust action by implementing a "one account per legal entity" policy. This is a necessary step toward restoring trust in the platform, protecting advertisers, and reducing online manipulation.
Tell Facebook it is time to take the socially responsible high road—or face irrelevance.
Sign the petition today and demand that Facebook acts swiftly and decisively to address this growing problem.
