Urge EBU to Allow Miriana Conte to Use Original Lyrics in Her Eurovision Song

The Issue

As a frequent Eurovision viewer, it is disturbing that Miriana Conte is being prevented from singing her original lyrics. Eurovision is a celebration of multiculturalism in music, languages and culture. The fact that Miriana is not allowed to sing her work in her own language is highly disturbing.

Especially since the BBC has also banned the song for the word "Kant", despite the word means 'singing' in Maltese.

The EBU's banning of one word from her song, a word that is included in her daily language, appears not only unfair but contrary to their own principle of diversity. The Eurovision Song Contest, which has seen entry by over 50 countries and their respective cultures since its inception in 1956, should promote this principle of diversity and cultural freedom.

I believe that the decision made by the EBU has led to the censorship of music, hence the violation of the freedom of the artist. Art and music cannot be limited by such injunctions. It should be open terrain where artists can freely express themselves as they think and feel. By doing so, they best portray their heritage and culture and contribute to world diversity and cultural consciousness in a real sense.

So I call on every music lover, every defender of artistic freedom, and everyone who believes that words and language cannot be a subject of censorship to sign this petition. Let us all unite and request the EBU to reconsider and allow Miriana Conte to sing her Eurovision song the way it was supposed to be sung. Sign this petition today for artistic freedom in Eurovision.
