Urge Dallas Area Rapid Transit to Add Gender Identity to Nondiscrimination Policies
The Economic Opportunity and Diversity Committee of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) system has approved a measure that would add gender identity to DART's nondiscrimination policy. The move is particularly important in the wake of an incident involving a transgender employee who was openly discriminated against by DART officials, told that she couldn't wear certain clothing to work, wear her hair a certain way, or use any bathrooms.
This measure now goes before DART's entire Board of Directors, who will vote on the measure in June 2010. Take a second and urge these DART board members to support a nondiscrimination policy that includes gender identity. No employee should have to face discrimination at the workplace, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, gender, age, or disability status.

The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) leadership has moved forward a measure that would enact protections related to gender identity in DART's nondiscrimination policy. This measure, approved by the Economic Opportunity and Diversity Committee, now goes before DART's entire Board of Directors for final approval this coming June.
I urge DART's board to pass this measure, and send the message that all DART employees will be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their race, religion, age, disability status, sexual orientation, gender or gender identity.
