Who is Impacted?
The residents of Yucaipa, local businesses, and taxpayers are directly harmed by the Bob Miller conflict-of-interest controversy. City contracts awarded to Miller’s wife, worth tens of thousands of dollars, divert public funds from transparent, competitive processes, depriving the community of fair resource allocation. Residents face higher taxes or reduced services when funds are misdirected through unethical deals. Small businesses lose opportunities to bid on contracts that appear rigged for insiders, stifling economic growth. Moreover, every citizen’s trust in local government is eroded when elected officials like Miller, a retired police chief appointed to the Yucaipa City Council in December 2024, exploit their positions for personal gain, leaving the community feeling betrayed and disenfranchised.

If this controversy is not addressed, Yucaipa risks a deepening culture of corruption that undermines democratic integrity. Unchecked conflicts of interest could lead to more public funds being funneled to connected individuals, draining resources for essential services like schools, roads, and public safety. Delaying risks allowing evidence to be obscured or destroyed, especially given suspicions of a cover-up involving withheld records and Miller’s influence as a former law enforcement leader. California’s Political Reform Act demands accountability, and the DA has the power to enforce it. By investigating now, the DA can stop this ethical breach from becoming a precedent, protect taxpayer funds, and show Yucaipa’s residents that justice prevails over cronyism.

Our Demand:
We respectfully request that the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office immediately launch a full, independent investigation into:

1. Whether Bob Miller violated state conflict-of-interest laws by approving checks benefiting his wife and son.

2. Any evidence of a cover-up, including suppression of records, undue influence on city staff, or failure to report the conflict by other officials.

3. Broader implications for Yucaipa’s procurement processes to prevent future ethical breaches.

The people of Yucaipa deserve accountability. An impartial probe by the DA's office will restore integrity to our city government and ensure no one is above the law. We commit to following this matter closely and supporting efforts to uphold justice.
