The Issue

In our cherished city of Cumberland, the dominance of liquor stores and alcohol-centric events is overwhelming. For many of us who call this place home, these pervasive influences are increasingly concerning, particularly for our youth and families. We find ourselves surrounded by reminders of a lifestyle that not all of us choose or wish to endorse.

Sadly, while our city accommodates numerous venues promoting alcohol, there is a noticeable lack of spaces that offer wholesome activities and gathering places for families and young people. Existing options like the skate park, museums, and the YMCA, though valuable, cannot fully cater to the diverse needs of our community. Furthermore, the cost associated with some facilities, such as the YMCA, presents a barrier for many families seeking positive recreational opportunities.

This is a call to action for the city of Cumberland to purchase land within city limits dedicated to creating a community center or event center. This facility would serve as a cornerstone for safe, inclusive, and alcohol-free interactions, fostering a nurturing environment for both youth and families.

A no-fee, easily accessible facility is crucial in providing equitable opportunities for all, ensuring that every child and family can engage in constructive and enriching activities without financial burden. This community center can host events, activities, and programs aimed at promoting unity, health, education, and entertainment.

Imagine a vibrant, bustling hub where creativity flourishes, talents are honed, minds are nurtured, and bonds within our community are strengthened. A community center in Cumberland assures our children and families a safe retreat and a beacon of positive influence amidst unwelcome temptations.

Now is the time for us to unite and present our plea to the city officials, demonstrating our collective commitment to cultivating a healthier, more inclusive community. By signing this petition, we signal a shared vision and demand action to build a future where our community thrives together, alcohol-free. Sign the petition and stand up for change in our beloved Cumberland.
