The Issue

Costco is failing families with children and adults who have cognitive disabilities by refusing to provide Caroline’s Cart, a specialized shopping cart designed for caregivers to transport individuals with disabilities, including children and adults, while shopping.

Millions of families struggle with the lack of accommodations when shopping, forcing them to choose between risking their child’s safety or avoiding stores altogether. Locally, Sam’s Club and BJ’s Wholesale already offer Caroline’s Cart voluntarily, proving that providing accessibility isn’t a financial burden…it’s a choice. But Costco continues to ignore the needs of disabled families.

We demand that Costco immediately begin offering Caroline’s Cart in all locations nationwide to ensure that all members can shop with dignity.

Why This Matters:

📌 1 in 31 children are diagnosed with autism, and over 20% of them experience profound challenges that make standard shopping carts inaccessible.

📌 1 in 10 American families have a loved one with an intellectual disability, meaning 8.4 million families in America need these carts.

📌 Costco’s refusal to provide accessible carts excludes millions of families from shopping freely, even when its competitors recognize the necessity of inclusion and in spite of their own “inclusive” nature.

What We’re Asking:

We urge Costco to listen to its members and take action now by implementing Caroline’s Cart in all stores nationwide. Families deserve accessibility. Disability is not an inconvenience…it’s a reality, and it’s time for Costco to step up.
