Urge Colgate and Crest to Remove Harmful Food Dyes from Children's Toothpaste

The Issue

As a concerned pediatric dentist, I am deeply disturbed by the presence of potentially harmful dyes in children's toothpastes, specifically those produced by Colgate and Crest, as they are the most widely used toothpaste brands. Our children's health and wellbeing is paramount, and we must ensure their oral care products do not contain substances that could negatively impact their overall health.

Numerous studies suggest that dyes, such as D&C Yellow No. 10, FD&C Blue No, Blue 1 and FD&C Red No. 40, which are used in many childrens’ toothpastes, can cause a range of health issues. These include allergies, hyperactivity and, in some rarer cases, cancer (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2018).

Given that oral health is a cornerstone of overall health, it is critical for companies like Colgate and Crest to take our children's safety seriously and eliminate these potentially harmful chemicals from their products. Furthermore, as a pediatric dentist, I’ve seen firsthand that health begins in the oral cavity. Therefore, the significance of ensuring that the products we use in our mouths are safe and healthy cannot be overstated.

Let's urge Colgate and Crest to prioritize the health and safety of our children by committing to produce children's toothpaste without potentially harmful dyes! Please join me in this initiative and sign this petition. Every signature brings us one step closer to a safer oral care routine for ALL of our children.
