The Issue

In the late 1970s, the heart of Iran was shattered by acts of injustice conducted under the guise of revolution. Many lost their lives to the brutal and unwavering decisions of the Revolutionary Court. Among the victims were intellectuals, pioneers, and visionaries who dreamt only of a thriving and harmonious Iran. My father was an ardent supporter of these values and paid the ultimate price for his loyalty to his country. Betrayed by a legal system weaponized by individuals like Sadegh Khalkhali, my father's future was ruthlessly stolen, leaving a void of irreparable loss.

Today, in Canada, his daughter, Zahra Sadeghi Givi, enjoys the freedoms and securities of a democratic society founded on principles of fairness and justice. Despite residing in such a society, Zahra seemingly owes her past, status, and lifestyle to horrific acts carried out in Iran under the regime that her father served. This is a harsh contradiction to the values we hold dear in Canada.

Zahra Sadeghi Givi’s presence in Canada strikes the painful memories of countless Iranians who consider Canada their sanctuary from oppression. It is an affront to the victims who were denied due process during the Revolutionary Court's reign of terror — which saw executions devoid of lawyers, legal proceedings, or even reasons, where bodies were buried anonymously in mass graves.

Although Zahra Sadeghi Givi might not have directly participated in these crimes, her continued residence in Canada symbolizes an acceptance of her father's actions, which is intolerable to us and to the memory of those wrongfully executed.

Thus, we urge the Canadian government to consider the gravity of Zahra’s father’s actions and ensure that Canada doesn't become a haven for families benefiting from past atrocities. Zahra's presence in Canada undermines the sanctuary offered to all those who have fled tyrannical regimes.

Sign this petition to call on the Canadian government to deport Zahra Sadeghi Givi, reminding the world that Canada stands firmly against injustice and in solidarity with the victims of the Iranian Revolutionary Court. Let us honor those who unjustly lost their lives by refusing to tolerate any form of endorsement of such heinous crimes. Together, we can uphold justice and protect the integrity of our safe haven.
