The Issue

For decades, local children have flocked to The Rye in High Wycombe for a taste of delight from Lisetta - endearingly known as "the Ice Cream Lady." To us, she is not just a vendor but a cherished part of our local heritage, a staple in our community that ties our past, present and future. Her presence is synonymous with joy and community spirit, making The Rye a special haven for all local residents.

Now, this heartwarming tradition is in jeopardy due to a recent decision by the Council to remove Lisetta from trading in The Rye, following a tender process. This decision overlooks the sentimental value and the deep-rooted connection that Lisetta holds with generations who have considered her a friend, confidant, and guardian of summer memories. Families return not just for the ice cream but for the warm and familiar friendly face that Lisetta offers amid a changing world.

In reviewing this decision, our Council should weigh the significant cultural and social impact such a change can have on the community. There has been widespread discontent and disappointment since the announcement, underscoring that this is not merely about business but maintaining a crucial piece of our local fabric. Communities thrive on tradition and familiarity, which Lisetta has offered for years. A Go Fund Me page set up by a local resident-heartbroken at the news- has raised over £1200 in just over 24 hours to give Lisetta a token of our appreciation.

We urge the Council to reassess the tender process and consider alternative solutions that include Lisetta's continued presence at The Rye. Allowing her to continue would not only preserve tradition but also encourage a sense of continuity and belonging for us all.

Your support is crucial to demonstrate to the Council that Lisetta's role transcends mere commerce. Join us in protecting our neighborhood’s richness, identity, and shared identity by signing this petition. Let's remind the Council that preserving our cherished community cornerstones like Lisetta is paramount. Please sign and support our cause today.
