Urge Brent Council to Bin the Blue Bags and go back to Blue Bins for Recycling
Urge Brent Council to Bin the Blue Bags and go back to Blue Bins for Recycling
The Issue
I am a concerned resident of Brent, deeply affected by the recent change in our recycling system. It's not just me who is struggling with this change; many elderly and disabled people in our community are finding it difficult to use these new blue nylon bags for recycling. The environment is also suffering as these empty bags are often seen littering the roads. Adding to the fly tipping problem where Brent is recorded as one of highest boroughs on the league table
The issue here isn't just about convenience, it's about accessibility and environmental responsibility. The previous method of using blue bins was more manageable for everyone, especially those who may have physical limitations that make handling lightweight nylon bags challenging.
Moreover, according to a study by Environmental Science & Technology (2019), nylon bags like these contribute significantly to microplastic pollution when they break down. They pose a threat not only to our local environment but also contribute globally towards an escalating problem.
We urge the council to reconsider their decision and return back to using blue bins for recycling. This will ensure that all residents can recycle easily and efficiently while reducing the environmental impact caused by loose flying nylon bags.
Please sign this petition if you believe in making recycling accessible for all while protecting our environment from further harm.
