Urge Board of Supervisors Action on Tijuana River Sewage Crisis Now

The Issue

Clean Water. Healthy Families. Safe Communities.

Please sign this petition to join me in sending a strong message to our community and decision-makers at every level that the time for action is NOW!

For too long, South Bay families have been forced to live with the toxic consequences of the Tijuana River sewage crisis. Every day, untreated sewage pours across our border, polluting our ocean, poisoning our air, and putting our children’s health at risk.

The facts are undeniable:

CDC studies confirm that exposure to sewage-related pollution is harming the health of people living in Imperial Beach, San Ysidro, southern San Diego, and Coronado.

Beaches are closed for months at a time, hurting families, workers, and small businesses that depend on clean water and tourism.
Neighborhoods are blanketed with toxic air, forcing residents to live with daily headaches, nausea, and the fear of long-term health impacts.

This is a public health emergency. And it’s a crisis that demands urgent action!

On September 9, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors will vote on a measure calling for stronger federal action and funding to finally tackle this decades-old disaster. Local voices matter now more than ever. This action will:

  1.  Implement an epidemiological public health impact study on chronic hydrogen sulfide exposure to impacted communities.
  2. Fund and implement an Economic Impact Study assessing the full scope of losses caused by the sewage crisis — including impacts to small businesses, property values, and regional tourism — to strengthen future funding and mitigation efforts.
  3. Competitively procure federal advocacy services focused on the Tijuana River Valley,
  4. Fund a feasibility study for infrastructure projects at Saturn Blvd to mitigate aerosolization of hydrogen sulfide and other potential harmful compounds

It is paramount that our elected officials understand the severity and urgency of the Tijuana River sewage crisis and act decisively to protect our communities for future generations

Only through sustained, cooperative efforts can we hope to mitigate the disastrous consequences and preserve the health and safety of affected populations.
