On April 3rd, 2024, a tragic incident occurred within the park, resulting in the death of my dog, Moose, on his first birthday. This incident highlights the lack of safe pet spaces in our area, and the pattern of speeding vehicles on Church Avenue posing a significant risk to pets and children using the park.

Linear Park is a popular gathering place for residents, particularly pet owners and families with young children. Unfortunately, the lack of fencing or pet safe areas at the park creates a dangerous situation. This is further compounded by the absence of speed humps on the Church Avenue side, allowing vehicles to travel at excessive speeds.

This is not an isolated event. Sadly, another dog lost his life in the park last year due to similar circumstances. The loss of these furbabies is not just a personal tragedy; it has deeply impacted the local dog owner community and raised serious concerns about the safety measures around Linear Park.

We, urge Bayside Council to take immediate action to improve safety within Linear Park and on Church Avenue. The implementation of the following measures is critical:

·       Fenced off-leash dog area: https://form.jotform.com/241042610310839

·      Implementation of traffic calming measures, such as speed humps or pedestrian crossing on Church Avenue to deter speeding vehicles.

We implore Bayside Council to prioritize this matter and take swift action to implement the aforementioned safety measures for local residents, especially those with pets and children.
