Il problema

Ye, also known as Kanye West, is a cultural and musical icon whose influence spans the globe. Fans in Marseille have long anticipated the opportunity to experience his legendary live performance at the Orange Vélodrome on June 11, 2026.

However, on April 14, the French Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, stated that he is “very determined” to ban the event. Canceling this much-anticipated concert would not only disappoint thousands of fans but also negatively impact local businesses, vendors, and event staff who rely on events like this for income.

Last year, Ye went through an untreated manic episode caused by his bipolar disorder. During that time, he posted several antisemitic statements. We all recognize that this was wrong. However, at the beginning of this year, he publicly apologized in a letter published in the Wall Street Journal, explaining that those statements were the result of his mental health condition and did not reflect his true beliefs. Today, he is undergoing clinical treatment and has resumed performing, including major shows such as two sold-out concerts at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, generating significant economic impact. His unique artistic style—blending multiple genres—continues to inspire fans and young artists worldwide.

Ye has recently met with Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto in a private meeting where he expressed apologies and a willingness to reflect on his past statements. This meeting has been interpreted as part of a broader process of personal accountability and dialogue. (https://youtu.be/nJRHEqp-yKQ?si=z_zNdBBgQduR7vV9

Canceling this concert would also set a negative precedent, discouraging future large-scale events in Marseille and limiting the city’s potential as a vibrant cultural hub. Moreover, many fans have already invested significant money to attend this event, traveling from different countries—myself included, coming from Italy. Canceling it would represent not only an economic loss, but also a lack of respect toward those who have made these commitments.

We urge local authorities and event organizers to consider the cultural and economic benefits of hosting Ye’s concert and to allow it to proceed as planned.
