The issue

Dear Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Attorney-General Michelle Rowland

Recently the Greek Government rejected the extradition of my brother's alleged murderer James Dalamangas due to the crime passing the Statute of Limitations of 25 years. I am reaching out to you today not only as a concerned citizen of Australia but as a grieving sister. For twenty-seven years, I have carried the weight of an unresolved tragedy—the untimely death of my beloved brother George Giannopoulos. Despite credible evidence and numerous appeals for justice, the alleged perpetrator of this heinous crime  James Dalamangas remains beyond the reach of Australian law due to international extradition barriers.

This petition calls upon the Australian government to wield its diplomatic influence to secure the extradition of the suspect. It is paramount not only for delivering justice to our family but also for reinforcing Australia’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, irrespective of international borders. The imperative of extraditing individuals accused of serious crimes, like the murder of a fellow Australian, cannot be overstated. This step is essential to ensure that justice prevails and that Australia remains a steadfast advocate for human rights and international justice.

James Dalamangas, the individual accused of this crime continues to live free in Greece, evading accountability. This situation undermines the credibility of our justice system and continues to cause immense distress to my family and to my late brother's widow and children. Australia's strong international relationships and its stance on human rights can be leveraged to ensure this individual faces trial.

I urge you, Prime Minister, to prioritize this issue and engage with the relevant international bodies and governments to bring this individual to justice. This is an opportunity for Australia to demonstrate its commitment to justice and the protection of its citizens.

Please sign this petition to show your support for the extradition of James Dalamangas and others  accused of serious crimes and to ensure that no family must wait decades for justice. Let us stand together in demanding action and compassion from those in power. Your signature can make a difference and help bring long-overdue peace and closure to grieving families.
