Honda advertised 50MPG for the Civic Hybrid and charged customers more than $5,000 more for Hybrids than for regular Civics, but most cars never came close to that, and many owners are struggling to get even 30 MPG now after Honda reprogrammed their software to use the deteriorating hybrid batteries even less to avoid replacing them under warranty at $3,000 each for 200,000 Civic Hybrids built between 2003 and 2009. This software update is irreversible and is like Honda siphoning gas out of owner's tanks to charge failing hybrid batteries that Honda refuses to replace under warranty.
Now Honda is about to settle 5 class actions with 500,000 current and prior 2003-2009 Civic Hybrid owners by giving the customers only $0-200 (plus a coupon) while the attorneys get $8.474M! The last time Honda tried to settle these cases 26 State Attorney Generals objected and the judge rejected the settlement.
