Urge Arsenal FC to End Its Partnership with Emirates Over UAE's Role in Sudan's Proxy War
The Issue
Arsenal F.C.'s decision to extend its partnership with Emirates Airlines until 2028 is deeply concerning, especially given the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) role in fuelling the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan. We call on Arsenal to immediately sever all ties with Emirates and stand against human rights abuses.
The proxy war in Sudan has resulted in one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises, displacing 10.9 million people, leaving over 25.6 million facing acute hunger, and causing 24.8 million to require urgent humanitarian assistance.
The UAE is the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) largest supporter, with credible reports linking its military and financial backing to the group’s continued atrocities. The RSF have been implicated in heinous war crimes, including genocide, ethnic cleansing, mass rape, forced displacement, and wilful killings. Driven by a desire for economic and political control, the UAE trades arms and funds for unabated access to exploit Sudan’s agricultural and mineral resources, particularly in Darfur, where illegal gold is mined and exported to the UAE. The UAE also facilitates weapons transfers disguised as humanitarian aid and promotes disinformation campaigns to destabilise the region.
The Government-owned Emirates Airlines is tied to the country’s political and economic agenda, which has profited at the expense of Sudanese lives. Arsenal’s partnership with Emirates implicitly binds the club to this ongoing conflict, perpetuating the UAE’s decimation of Sudan’s resources and people, all the while enabling the UAE to cleanse their image.
Arsenal must take a stand for human rights and justice by ending its partnership with Emirates Airlines. Sanctions, divestment and exclusion of the UAE and its services are crucial steps to hold those responsible for this devastating crisis accountable.
Sign this petition and join us in calling on Arsenal to prioritise human dignity and justice over financial ties — to lead by example in the fight against oppression, end the partnership with Emirates Airlines and take a stand for Sudan.
