Urge Anthony Albanese to call an early federal election
The issue
Dear fellow Australians,
Since Anthony Albanese became Prime Minister, the Reserve Bank has raised the cash rate 16 times in just over four years. No other prime minister has presided over that many increases in such a short period in the RBA’s published cash-rate target history.
For families already stretched to breaking point, today’s rise raises a terrifying question: will we be able to keep our home?
Mortgage payments are rising alongside rent, groceries, fuel, insurance and energy bills. Small businesses are struggling. Young Australians are shut out of home ownership, while recent buyers face falling property values. People work hard and still cannot get ahead.
Australians pay a substantial share of the nation’s tax through personal income tax. We want to know why working households are being squeezed while government spending keeps growing, and whether its priorities put Australians doing it tough first.
Albanese says one thing and does another. He insisted his government’s position on the Stage 3 tax cuts had not changed, then changed it. He promised lower power bills, yet households are still paying more. Australians deserve accountability for promises that have not been delivered.
We question spending priorities, including overseas commitments, while Australians struggle at home. We oppose energy and net-zero policies that we believe are adding to household costs. We want migration, housing and essential services planned together so communities can keep up.
Australia’s deadliest terrorist attack on home soil happened at Bondi Beach under this government’s watch. Fifteen people were murdered while celebrating a Jewish festival of light.
Giggle v Tickle has also left many Australians asking whether the law properly protects women’s ability to create female-only spaces. Parliament should address that question openly.
The Prime Minister accepts awards on the world stage while families at home fear losing their homes. This government has lost our confidence. Call an election and let Australians decide.
