The Issue

My Kindle works perfectly fine at the moment, but I know that soon it will no longer be supported by Amazon. When that day comes, I should be able to recycle it easily, allowing the useful components to be reused and any waste to be properly disposed of, not left to damage our planet further. This isn't just a plea for myself but for all of us who love our tech yet care about our environment too.

Amazon recently announced that older Kindle models would no longer be supported. This decision could lead to hundreds of tonnes of e-waste as thousands of Kindles head to landfills, breaking down and releasing harmful materials into the environment. It's disheartening to see giants of the tech industry, who have amassed great profits, not taking responsibility for the waste their products produce.

The solution is clear: Amazon must establish an efficient and accessible returns system for these devices. By setting up a recycling program, they can prevent electronic waste from ending up in landfills and causing even more pollution. They have the resources and means to create a system where users can return their obsolete devices for proper recycling. This responsible action will not only prevent environmental damage but also encourage a culture of sustainability within the tech industry.

This isn’t just about Amazon. Other tech giants, like Apple with their iPods, should also have to confront the lifecycle of their products and invest in processes that ensure sustainability and waste reduction. But we can start with Amazon and make a real impact by asking them to lead the way.

We demand that Amazon and similar companies allocate part of their vast profits to handle their waste effectively. Ensuring the components of their products are recycled or disposed of properly is not just a kindness; it’s a necessity for the future health of our planet.

Join me in urging Amazon to take immediate action and create a responsible recycling program for their Kindles and other outdated tech products. Your signature can drive change and help protect the environment from the growing threat of electronic waste pollution. Please sign this petition today to support sustainable practices in the tech industry.
