The Issue

My adult parent, who is moving in with me, is on a limited income and has a visual impairment. Despite these challenges, she holds onto her desire for independence and the ability to share family resources like any other member of our household. Sadly, this is becoming increasingly difficult with the current restrictions Amazon places on sharing content among household members on their platform.

For families like mine, where non-traditional living arrangements are common, the system is failing us. I am the caretaker of both my child and my parent, who has a condition requiring supervision of accounts. Yet, Amazon only provides options tailored for traditional households, failing to address the emerging demographic where adult children care for their elderly parents or anyone else who doesn't fit the conventional mold.

Unfortunately, Amazon no longer offers teen accounts, and the only available alternative is child accounts, which are not suitable for everyone. For instance, my child struggles with the current "child" interface on Amazon's Fire tablets, which lumps content under "other stuff" without allowing for individual app use. This makes accessing educational content and entertainment needlessly complicated.

We need to urge Amazon.com, Inc. to recognize the diversity of modern families residing under one household by:

1. Allowing all dependent adults residing in a single household to access family content and libraries, ensuring they're not excluded due to age or financial inability.
2. Reintroducing teen accounts to provide an age-appropriate interface and content filtering so that teenagers can access content suited to their maturity level.
3. Improving the child interface on platforms like Fire tablets to allow for better organization and enable access to individual apps, making it easier for children to navigate independently.

By expanding access and inclusivity, Amazon would not only demonstrate its commitment to serving all its users fairly but also endorse the very essence of family: inclusion and sharing. Sign this petition to urge Amazon to make these necessary changes and provide complete access for non-traditional households. Let's strive to make our family content and libraries accessible to everyone who calls our households home.
