The Issue
I am proud to be a member of the NM Sí Se Puede Committee, an organization dedicated to uplifting communities and fostering positive change. Our work, grounded in service, education, and civic engagement, brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds to support youth and create meaningful impacts through collaboration and respect. However, our efforts hinge on the fundamental rights that allow us to speak up, assemble, learn, and be treated with dignity.
Today, I am calling on the community members of Albuquerque to make a pledge to take action on critical issues that affect us all. These issues encompass workers' rights, women's rights, immigration rights, environmental justice, voting rights, and survivors’ rights. Each of these areas is crucial for ensuring that every individual in our community is treated with fairness and respect, regardless of their background.
Workers’ rights guarantee fair pay and safe working conditions, allowing families to thrive. Women’s rights ensure equality and protection against discrimination. Immigration rights affirm the humanity of those seeking a better life, allowing them to contribute fully to society. Environmental justice addresses the urgent need to protect our planet and ensure clean air and water for all. Voting rights uphold the democratic process and give a voice to every citizen, while survivors' rights provide necessary protections and support to those overcoming trauma.
Taking a stand on these topics is not just about supporting rights in theory; it’s about taking concrete actions that lead to real changes. We need to promote policies that protect our workers, support laws that ensure equality for women, advocate for immigration reforms that respect human dignity, take steps to preserve our environment, safeguard voting accessibility, and provide robust support systems for survivors.
I am asking each member of this vibrant community to pledge to one action within these essential areas. Whether it’s volunteering, organizing informational events, participating in local government meetings, or simply spreading awareness, every action contributes to the collective effort.
Let us unite in our commitment to drive positive change and protect the rights that are foundational to our shared vision. Together, we can build a stronger, more equitable Albuquerque for everyone.
Please sign this petition to show your support and make your commitment to these vital issues. Together, we can make a difference.
