Urge a committee vote on HJR 115 for Missouri disabled veterans

The Issue

Every day, disabled veterans in Missouri navigate the challenges of living on limited and fixed incomes due to injuries sustained while bravely defending the United States. They have sacrificed so much for our nation, and now it is our turn to honor their service by alleviating some of their financial burdens. The introduction of HJR 115, the Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption, offers a crucial relief to these veterans by providing a property tax exemption that can make their lives a bit easier and more manageable.

Last year, HJR 115 received overwhelming bipartisan support, passing the Missouri House of Representatives with a vote of 152 to 2, and the Senate 32 to 0. Despite this significant approval and support from lawmakers, the bill currently remains stalled under procedural delay. Unfortunately, HJR 115 sits collecting dust because Senator Crawford, who chairs the Select Committee on Property Taxes, has yet to move it forward to a committee vote, a necessary step for it to progress to the Senate floor for a final vote.

The delay is not just a matter of politics; it directly impacts the lives of Missouri's disabled veterans who are left waiting for the benefits they desperately need. The Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption is a tangible way to provide immediate relief to those who have already given so much to their country. By passing this exemption, we can express gratitude and support for their sacrifices and improve their daily lives.

We urge Senator Crawford to prioritize this matter and call for a committee vote on HJR 115 without further delay. Removing the bureaucratic barriers allows this vital bill to advance and provides the support that has been promised to our veterans.

Please sign this petition to show your support for Missouri's disabled veterans and help bring this critical bill to the Senate floor for a vote. Your signature can make a difference and demonstrate to our lawmakers that these heroes' sacrifices should be acknowledged and rewarded. Together, we can ensure they receive the financial relief they deserve and have wholeheartedly earned.

If you support getting this on the ballot this November, please take a couple of minutes and call the committee members. A short, respectful call makes a difference.
Suggested script:
