Lakhs of aspirants aspire to be a part of NDA after 12th class. The chances of a PCM student passing the exam are more than an arts and commerce student. While the UPSC checks maths first and gives out an 11th std and 12th based mathematical question pattern, an arts student has to go out of his way to clear UPSC, while a PCM student would only have to do what he has been asked to do all his time. Arts students have a very low chance of getting into NDA, because of a standard, they can't be competed for. And if arts students in army wing can only apply for B. A. in graduation in NDA, then the purpose of having mathematics of high level seems baseless and ridiculous. Hence, either the UPSC removes maths and keeps it optional for Arts student as he can only apply for army wing, or take down 11th & 12th std syllabus and introduce elementary maths as to not have a discriminatory criteria to pass the written exam.
